DESUMA Installation Instructions

  • Java Runtime Environment - Version 1.7.* is recommended
  • UMDES Executables - Integrated with DESUMA 2.0

Procedure (Linux or Mac)

  1. Open a Terminal and change the directory to the download location using the cd command.
  2. Use the command tar -xzvpf <Desuma_Download>. This will extract the contents of the archive. This will create the file "DESUMA.jar", and the two directories "plugins" and "lib".
  3. The program is called DESUMA.jar. On Mac and on some versions of Linux, you can simply double-click on the file to start the program. On some versions of Linux, it will be necessary to open the program through the command line, by using java -jar DESUMA.jar
  4. Upon opening the program for the first time, you will probably obtain an error saying "Could not find or load the following plugin (xml) files:...". Do not worry! This is easily fixed. Simply click "OK", wait for Desuma to load, go to Preferences -> Preferences..., and select the "Profile" tab. Now click on "Remove" where it says "Plugins Directory" to remove the current plugins file (the one which gave the error when Desuma opened). Finally, click "Browse" to replace this with the correct file, which is located at <installation_directory>/plugins/umdes/umdes.xml.

Procedure (Windows)

  1. Coming soon...

Troubleshooting (Linux or Mac)

  1. If you try to run a command and nothing happens when clicking "submit", the most likely reason is that the executable permissions are not set. This can be fixed without exiting the program. Simply open a terminal, cd to <installation_directory>/plugins/umdes/exec/<your_os>/, and type chmod u+x *. Try clicking "submit" again in Desuma.
